Renuka is far from alone. As of today, we support more one than 51,000 students every year whose families live below the poverty line. Most of the recipients are from communities afflicted by India's farmer suicide epidemic, and Maharashtra is the state where farmer suicide rates are highest. The last official figures released by the Indian government were for 2015. In Maharashtra 3,030 farmers took their lives that year, and after that came Telangana with the number at 1,358. The national figure was 8,007.

Through providing education scholarships, we aim to lay a stronger economic foundation upon which impoverished students and their families can base their lives. The support gives the children new options to break out of the cycle of poverty and gives hope not only to their families, but also to the community at large.
